Hegemony

In the book Speak, Mr. Neck does not allow the students to state their true opinion. That has never happened to me before, but I have witnessed it. In the 4th grade, even though the children were small and not very smart, they had a curious imagination and would often be asked their opinion on things. They were considered ridiculous and disregarded.

I express my thoughts mostly by the way I dress. I usually wear jeans, a nice shirt, or a hoodie to school. I also express myself with music. I enjoy playing the guitar and singing and listening to music. It depends on my mood to which song I listen to. If I listen to a sad song, i'm upset, if i'm happy I usually listen to upbeat music. If I feel mellow, I listen to old rock like Journey and the Rolling Stones.

I have a dream that one day this nation will be Violence Free.   I have a dream that one day No one will judge anyone else. I have a dream that one day people will get along with everyone.   I have a dream that lower class and higher class will help each other.   I have a dream today.   I have a dream that one day the lower class will stop judging the higher class as “snobs”   I have a dream today.   I have a dream that one day the higher class will stop judging lower class as “poor people”   This is my hope and faith. With this faith we will be able to come together as one.   This will be the day when we all learn to love each other.   And when this happens, when we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

The Children's March

It started out at the church. We marched to the park, where we sang and danced. The firemen opened the hoses on us, but we did not back down. We no longer feared them. Dozens by dozens, we were arrested. But yet, we still did not feel fear. I sat in the jail house, waiting for freedom. Not only freedom from the jail, but freedom from segregation. 3 days later I was released. Kids just kept coming in and out, never upset though. We still sang and danced.

Freedom Riders

13 people boarded 2 buses to ride to freedom. They would start in Alabama, and finish in Mississippi. The rode for freedom against segregation and racial discrimination. When everyone was trying to beat them up, discourage them, and kill them, they didn't fight back in a violent way. They knew that if they did, it would show that they were no better then them, and they would most likely be arrested and killed.

Civil Rights

The two pictures above are about how it was between black and white people before, and how it is now. The black people and the white police officers fighting represent back then, and the black hand and the white hand shaking represent now.

Tom Walker

Tom Walker was a very greedy and disgusting man. When his wife died, he did not feel any regret, but relief. He was a cheater who constantly lied and cheated. He made a deal with the devil just so he could become rich. He sacrificed the life God gave him, and joined the devil, even though in the end he would die and go to hell. His first life is just the beginning, and he if he didn't forsake it he could of went to heaven. In the end, when he realized his mistake, he was still greedy. He refused to feed his horses and would not lend anyone any more loans.
